How are the rules for administering the vaccine Medivac Gumboro A through drinking water on broilers? How much drinking water is used and should it be used up in how many hours? Is it possible for my chickens to be vaccinated in 1 day ND and Gumboro at once?

 Answer:

Dear. Mr. Sony, thank you for the question. Proper Gumboro vaccination application is one of the important keys that support successful vaccination. To obtain optimal results, active Gumboro vaccines such as Medivac Gumboro A or Medivac Gumboro B can be given via mouth drops (cekok) or drinking water. Feeding through drinking water is carried out if the chickens are already 10 days old. In addition, the vaccine can be given no later than 2 weeks before the age of attack according to Gumboro's case history. However, to obtain an optimal level of immunity, each chicken should get 1 full dose so it is better to give it by mouth drops.

When using active vaccines such as Gumboro vaccine, the thing to note is that the vaccine virus must immediately find the host cell (enter the chicken's body), especially after being dissolved, because the microorganisms in the vaccine are only weakened. Therefore, the vaccine must be consumed within 2 hours.

After the vaccine is given, the virus will go to the target immune organs to multiply then go to the target lymphoid organs to bully the formation of immunity. That is why the Gumboro vaccination application is recommended through mouth drops or drinking water so that the vaccine virus can go to the target organ, namely bursa Fabricius which is at the end of the digestive tract (cloaca, red).

Some things to consider in administering the drinking water vaccine, including:

  • Before giving drinking water containing the vaccine, chickens should first drink fasting for 2-3 hours, depending on the weather. If the conditions of the cage environment is very hot, fasting drink enough for 1 hour. In order for the results of vaccination through drinking water to be optimal, vaccination should be carried out in the morning, because it is the peak time for chickens to move and consume drinking water and environmental weather conditions are still relatively comfortable.
  • Only healthy chickens should be vaccinated. If vaccination is done on sick chickens, especially Gumboro disease that attacks the immune organs producing antibodies, it will cause the immune response of vaccination will not be optimal and stress levels are also higher. Give multivitamins (Vita Stress) and immunostimulants (Imustim) to maintain immunity and stamina remain prime.
  • Handling and storage of active vaccines such as Medivac Gumboro A must be done carefully and follow the procedure, namely the vaccine must be stored at a temperature of 2-8°C and taken to the cage with marina cooler or an ice flask filled with ice cubes. When the vaccine is to be used, the temperature of the vaccine solution should be close to the chicken's body temperature of 41°C. So that by dissolving in ordinary drinking water, the temperature of the vaccine solution has approached the body temperature of the chicken and can be used.
  • Provide drinking places in sufficient quantities according to the chicken population so that all chickens can drink simultaneously. Do not use drinkers from cans.
  • Make sure the chicken drinker (TMA) already clean when vaccinating drinking water. Clean the cone plate and gallon drinker using a dry rag or cloth to minimize dirt from entering. On the use of nipple drinker and TMAO, cleaning of water pipelines should also be considered. Perform routine cleaning with draining (flushing) on water pipes especially after or before medication schedules, administration of vitamins, disinfection of drinking water and especially when there is a vaccination schedule.
  • Make sure the drinking water used to dissolve the vaccine is free of chlorine, disinfectants, or metals (iron, Ca, Mg, etc.) and has a neutral pH. However, if the quality of drinking water is not good, add Medimilk 10g/5L or Netrabil 5g/L drinking water 30 minutes before the vaccine is dissolved to improve water quality, so that it can keep the vaccine working well during administration.
  • Prepare drinking water according to the number of chickens to be vaccinated and can be drunk in 2 hours. As a guide in calculating the need for drinking water during vaccination can be seen in Table 1.

To determine the amount of drinking water consumption of chicken can also be seen from feed intake chicken. The amount of drinking water consumption is 2 times the amount of feed consumed. So for example every day feed intake laying hens (phase grower) as much as 25 grams per head per day then the amount of drinking water consumption of 50 ml per head per day or 50 liters per 1,000 chickens per day.

  • Fill half the vaccine vial with drinking water, then the vial is closed again and shaken until well mixed before the contents of the vial are mixed into drinking water.

In principle, the simultaneous administration of ND and Gumboro vaccines is not a problem in the formation of antibodies because the target organs of the two vaccines are different. To reduce the reaction post vaccination can be given Vita Stress to restore stamina and suppress stress due to vaccination. As a guide, we provide the following nd-Gumboro vaccination program for broilers:
