When is the best time to take antibiotics and at what dosage?
I have 24,000 chickens and use Dosatron for the administration of drugs/vitamins.
Answer:
Thank you for the submitted question. Antibiotics are used to treat bacterial infections such as Colibacillosis, CRD (Chronic Respiratory Disease), Korisa, Salmonellosis, Kolera dan NE (Necrotic Enteritis). It is not allowed to give antibiotics for preventive purposes. Because this can risk causing resistance in bacteria to antibiotics given. As a result, the effect of giving antibiotics is not optimal and the disease does not go away.
Every antibiotic product on the market has an etiquette or label as information about the product. Included in it is information about the indications, dosage and rules of use of the product. An example of a product label Amoxitin there is information on the dosage and rules of use, namely 0.1 grams per kilogram of body weight or 1 gram per 2 liters of drinking water given for 3-5 consecutive days. Its use is recommended to dose in one day divided into 2 administrations, with each administration/ mixing with drinking water should be exhausted within a maximum of 6 hours. For example, the first administration at 07.00-12.00 then followed by the second administration at 12.00-17.00. This aims to make treatment results more optimal.
If the technical administration of drugs on the farm father uses Dosatronthe amount of water consumed per day (water intake) which can be known from the numbers shown in water meter on the chicken drinking water installation system. However, if the chicken drinking water installation system is not equipped water meter, then the calculation of the amount of drinking water consumption of chickens is assumed to be equal to 1.5-2 times feed intake daily. In addition to note is the volume of solvent for the drug and setting (scale) Dosatron used. It is important to know the target time required so that the drug solution can be consumed by chickens according to the specified target. Here is an example of calculating the drug in powder and liquid preparations when using Dosatron:
1. Powder medicine
Chicken population: 24,000 head
Average weight : 0.5 kg
Feed intake : 45 g / head/Day
Target water consumption: 90 ml / head/Day
Dosage of the drug : 0.1 g / kg bw
Setting Dosatron : 2%
Target run out : 6 hours
Then the answer is as follows :
- The need for medication
= 24.000 ekor x 0,5 kg x 0,1 gr/kgBB
= 1200 grams : 2 servings = 600 Gramm
- Total water consumption in 1 day
= 24,000 x 90 ml/head / Day = 2160 liters
- Total water consumption for 6 hours
= (2160 liters x (6 : 24)) = 540 liters
- Required drug solution
= 540 litres x 2% = 10.8 liters
So it takes 10.2 liters of solvent to dissolve 600 grams of the drug in the input bucket Dosatron for hours 07.00-12.00. Then a second administration with the same volume of solvent and the same amount of the drug for 12.00-17.00 hours at
in the input bucket/container Dosatron.
2. Liquid medicine
Chicken population: 24,000 head
Average weight : 0.5 kg
Feed intake : 45 g / head/Day
Target water consumption: 90 ml / head/Day
Dosage of the drug : 0.2 ml / kg bw
Setting Dosatron : 2%
Target run out : 6 hours
Then the answer is as follows :
- The need for medication
= 24.000 ekor x 0,5 kg x 0,2 ml/kg BB
= 2400 ml: 2 servings = 1200 ml
- Total water consumption in 1 day
= 24,000 x 90 ml/head / Day = 2160 liters
- Total water consumption for 6 hours
= 2160 liters x (6/24) = 540 liters
- Required drug solution
= 540 litres x 2% = 10.8 liters
So it takes 9.6 liters of solvent to dissolve 1200 ml of the drug in the input bucket Dosatron for hours 07.00-12.00. Then the second administration with the same volume of solvent and the same amount of the drug for 12.00-17.00 hours in a bucket/input container Dosatron.

Things to consider is the routine of doing maintenance on the device so that it is not easily damaged. Maintenance can be done by checking and cleaning the inside Dosatron by opening the top cover and then rinsing it with running water. So that the rest of the drug that is still attached to the inside of the device does not clog during the next use. Ideally, the cleaning process of the device can be done after the Drug Administration process is complete. Advantages of Dosatron is the automatic mixing of drugs, vitamins or vaccines into drinking water pipelines by utilizing water pressure. In addition, the drug solution or concentrate will dissolve proportionally.
