Preparation of laying duck feed what production period may use variations of cassava flour and dry tofu dregs. What is the recommended composition of the formulation if it consists of duck concentrate, Bran, cassava flour and dry tofu pulp?

Answer:

Thank you for the submitted question. Cassava / cassava flour can be used in laying duck feed up to 30%. But there are some things to note or restrictions on its use :

  • In cassava tubers contained cyanide. Most of the cyanide is in the skin. Stripping the tuber skin, soaking and drying can lower the cyanide content.
  • Cassava has a high carbohydrate or energy source (about 2,950 kcal/kg), almost equal to corn, but low in protein (only about 2.5%). So it needs to be considered adjustments to the calculation of the formulation so that it can still meet the nutritional needs of livestock.
  • Use cassava flour gradually. Cassava can be used with a level of 2% at the beginning of Use and gradually increased to the maximum limit of use. This is as a way to duck adaptation. Ducks can recognize the existence of new raw materials so that no effect on feed intake. Gradual administration also gives the duckling's digestive tract time for adjustment. Often if its use is directly given in large quantities, Ducks will experience digestive disorders, ranging from wet stools to diarrhea. This gradual use will also provide time for farmers to observe changes in duck response and productivity. And for the formulator can re-evaluate the maximum limit of the use of cassava.

Furthermore, for dry tofu pulp, it can be used in laying duck feed up to 20%. Just like cassava, the use of dried tofu pulp as an alternative feed raw material for ducks needs to pay attention to the following things :

  • The nutritional content of tofu pulp varies depending on the place and method of processing.

  • The coarse fiber content of tofu pulp is quite high (about 24.14%). High crude fiber is also correlated with the presence of anti-nutrients in the form of phytic acid. Phytic acid usually binds to minerals so that mineral absorption will be impaired. This can be handled by fermentation or the addition of enzymes fitase like Betterzym or Prozyme.
  • In addition to its high density, it also contains arabinoxylanits high that causes its use in the preparation of poultry feed to be limited. Poultry is not able to digest arabinoxylan. Content arabinoxylan high levels can cause the formation of a viscous gel in the small intestine (intestinal viscosity increases) which causes the absorption of fat and energy to be inhibited (Adams, 2000).
  • Use the dried tofu pulp gradually.

Here's an example of a simple formulation of laying duck feed production phase.
