My laying hens are attacked by CRD, I treat with Trimezyn. After that in-support by giving vitamins and spraying the cage with Antisep. As a result, the chicken is healthy again and eats as usual. But one month after recovery, my chicken egg production dropped dramatically and even some chickens did not lay eggs. What are the contributing factors? How to deal with it?

Answer:

Dear. Mr. Dedy, thank you for the question. Previously, we need to explain that pure and complex CRD disease can indeed cause a decrease in egg production followed by a decrease in ration consumption. In addition to CRD, decreased egg production can also be caused by other infectious factors and non-infectious factors, namely:

  1. Infectious factors

Decreased egg production is often one of the early symptoms of an attack of the disease. Diseases that often cause the impact of decreased production is quite high is the disease Avian Influenza (AI), Newcastle Disease (ND), Infectious Bronchitis (IB) and Egg Drop Syndrome (EDS). In the case of AI, often found dilation of ovarian blood vessels resulting in a decrease and even stop egg production. AI also causes thinner and paler scallops. Changes in the reproductive organs due to ND, that is, the prospective yolk bleeds and sometimes breaks in the abdominal cavity. In terms of egg quality, nd infection results in small eggs and pale colored shells.

In IB attacks, the ovaries are not developed and fertilized. In addition, there is often a clear fluid deposits in the oviduct (cystic oviduct) on variant IB attacks. The color of the eggs becomes pale, smaller, thin shells and diluted egg white. In EDS disease, chickens appear healthy, showing no symptoms of illness except a very drastic decrease in production accompanied by a decrease in egg quality such as thin, soft shells and even eggs without shells.

  1. Non-infectious factors
  • Quality pulletParameters of quality pullet the weight of the body is good (BB) and uniformity (uniformity). Non-standard weight and low uniformity will affect the quality and quantity of eggs. Weight standards pullet at 16 weeks of age about 1340-1400 grams with uniformity >85%.
  • Maintenance management is not optimal

In their maintenance, chickens need a ration with appropriate and balanced nutrients (protein, energy, calcium and phosphorus) to maintain egg production during the production period. Nutrient levels in rations that are not enough, lacking and unbalanced, or contain toxins (such as fungal toxins) will decrease the amount of egg production and can even cause chickens to stop laying eggs. Chickens that lack clean and fresh drinking water for several hours can also stop laying eggs for weeks.

Failure of maintenance management can also be caused due to lack of lighting. If we neglect to pay attention to the lighting program, it will inhibit the metabolism of Ca and P in the process of bone formation and egg shells. Laying hens that have entered the production period require long lighting for 16 hours per day (12 hours of sunlight and 4 additional hours of light) to maintain egg production. The light intensity is 10-15 lux (Lohmann Brown Management Guide, 2016). Stress, whether due to heat, cold, selection, moving cages, rough treatment, etc., can also lead to a decrease in egg production.

If you find several chickens with drastically decreased egg production, here are some things you can do to solve the problem:

  1. Perform isolation and observation of other symptoms that could indicate the presence of a disease. Routinely monitor antibody titers, especially for viral diseases (caused by viruses) that can reduce egg production, such as ND, AI, IB and EDS. If the antibody titer is less than the protective standard or close to the lower limit baseline titer, immediately revaccinate with Medivac ND Clone 45Medivac ND-AI or Medivac ND-IB-EDS Emulsion. Do it anyway treatment in accordance with other symptoms that appear. If necessary, give antibiotics such as Proxan-CTherapy or Neo Meditril to prevent secondary infection. Vitamins, such as Vita Stress and Strong n Fit it can also be done to reduce stress and increase the stamina of the chicken's body.
  2. In order to achieve the maximum level of egg production, pay attention to the amount of ration per day. In addition, to ensure that the nutritional content of the ration provided has met the needs, nutrient content analysis of the ration can be done in MediLab (Medion Laboratories). Drinking water should also be provided ad libitum (continuous). Pay attention to the quality of drinking water both physical, chemical and microorganism content so that chickens always get clean and fresh drinking water.
  3. If the decline in production is accompanied by environmental stress, immediately overcome it by creating comfortable conditions during the maintenance period (provide a sufficient amount of drinking water, open the curtains wide, install fans, etc.). Use a light with a red-orange color to add lighting at night. The lamp must be evenly distributed so that the light is evenly distributed. If necessary, add vitamins such as Egg Stimulant or Aminovit to stimulate egg production.
